Photograph of Portmellon Cove near Valley Cottage B&B PortmellonEaster has passed with it’s inclement weather and we are now looking forward to blue skies and sunshine!

What a great time to come and explore the deserted beaches and glorious coastal walking before it gets too busy.

The famous Lost Gardens of Heligan and lesser known Caerhays Castle are both within a few miles and will soon be full of Rhododendrons and Azaleas, so come on down for a visit.

Comes in many different formsPhotograph of black and white wooden noticeboard in the stairwell at Valley Cottage B&B Portmellon

We had two sisters from Switzerland staying with us, they were walking the coast path towards the Lizard and wanted to visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan. They left behind a magazine and we spotted this saying, which we’re trying to adopt, so out came the old floorboards, blackboard paint and stencil brushes.

As a Christmas gift, our son Adam and his girlfriend Victoria gave a sausage making course at Cornish Charcuterie near Bude. After howling winds all night, the journey took just over an hour and driving up the lane to the farm, saw black sheep and very young lambs accompanied by a pair of young, very attractive Alpacas. Richard, the owner, gave a brief history of sausages, then it was hand washing, aprons on and with their own beautifully lean, fresh shoulder of pork, down to sausage making.

Made two varieties, sage & onion and chorizo, they are both delicious, but we will not be changing from the Pork & cracked black pepper sausages that we always serve from Lobbs Farm Shop at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. (Award winning and loved by our guests and us!!)

Mike & Sue would like to wish all of our guests, a happy and healthy 2015.
We were blessed with beautiful sunshine on Christmas Day and managed to get a couple of hours on Vault beach near Gorran Haven. Now the decorations are put away and we look forward to meeting and welcoming new and returning guests.

Spring bulbs

In October we planted loads of bulbs in pots, so guests that come to visit The Lost Gardens of Heligan, will be able to enjoy our small offering as they enter and leave the house.
