Photograph of the Bluebells at Milltown/Lantyan Woods near Valley Cottage B&B PortmellonOccasionally it’s nice to do something different than beachcombing, so last weekend we went to see the fabulous bluebells at Milltown/Lantyan Woods overlooking the Fowey river near Golant. Everywhere we looked they were spread out before us.

It was only 20 minutes away from us in Portmellon Cove and reminded us that there are a huge variety of walks in this area, it was really peaceful, we didn’t see a soul.

Photograph of rainbow over the cove at Valley Cottage B&B PortmellonEven in January, after a morning of rain, this is the spectacular view as you wind down to Portmellon Cove, colours of the sea and sky changing as you walk.

We are so fortunate living this close to the South Cornwall coast which has so much to offer, fabulous scenery, deserted beaches, all kinds of weather and flora and fauna ahead of most other parts of the country.

COME ON DOWN!! (We’d love to see you)

Our new paintingPhoto of painting & sculptures at Valley Cottage B&B Portmellon

Went to the intimate Flying Colours exhibition by local artists at Gorran Haven, we were really tempted by three paintings from local artist Julia Clough, but chose this one because it sums up everything we love about Cornwall. For more information about Julia, see her Facebook page: Julia Clough Artist Cornwall.

Logo showing goose and pig logo of Cornish Charcuterie where Mike & Sue from Valley Cottage B&B Portmellon, made sausagesMade by Sue, but we’ll stick to Lobbs

As a Christmas gift, our son Adam and his girlfriend Victoria gave a sausage making course at Cornish Charcuterie near Bude. After howling winds all night, the journey took just over an hour and driving up the lane to the farm, saw black sheep and very young lambs accompanied by a pair of young, very attractive Alpacas. Richard, the owner, gave a brief history of sausages, then it was hand washing, aprons on and with their own beautifully lean, fresh shoulder of pork, down to sausage making.

Made two varieties, sage & onion and chorizo, they are both delicious, but we will not be changing from the Pork & cracked black pepper sausages that we always serve from Lobbs Farm Shop at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. (Award winning and loved by our guests and us!!)
